With GAD seminar oct2022 1the aim to capacitate its Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS), the Philippine Science High School - Central Visayas Campus (PSHS-CVisC) successfully conducted a three-day GAD seminar from October 19 to 21, 2022, at Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City. Ms. Maria Fe B. Singson, a supervising science research specialist of DOST-GAD and a member of the national GAD resource pool of experts from the Philippine Commission on Women, graced the event as the resource speaker.

In her opening remarks, PSHS-CVisC campus director and GAD Focal Point System chairperson, Dr. Rachel Luz V. Rica, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for the capacity-building seminar and pointed out that it paves the way for fresh ideas crucial in realizing the GAD initiatives and advocacies of the campus for the next five years. She added that the event would increase the awareness level of Pisay personnel to respond more effectively to GAD-related issues in the workplace and open new horizons in addressing the GAD needs of different generations.

The resource speaker facilitated the discussion of major GAD topics such as gender-fair language, gender sensitivity, gender mainstreaming, and gender analysis. The participants actively engaged in the fora, deepening sessions, and workshop presentations of gender-responsive activity proposals.

Locking the 3-day seminar, Mr. Marjhun Ricarte, a member of the GFPS executive committee, highlighted in his closing message the significance of gender and development programs in the context of science and technology education institutions like PSHS-CVisC. He also expressed his gratitude to the resource speaker for sharing many invaluable insights that will definitely improve the quality and responsiveness of PSHS-CVisC's GAD activities in the years to come. The training ended with the giving of tokens and certificates to the speaker and the participants.
