PSHS Central Visayas wins big in international expo

Delegates from Philippine Science High School - Central Visayas Campus (PSHS-CVisC) won 10 awards during the 20th Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) on March 22-26, 2021.

MTE is an annual international expo on innovation and technology. This year, the event has shifted online in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Five PSHS-CVisC teams earned gold awards for their innovations.

Under the Junior category (Disaster, Emergency, and Crisis Management), Nathan Elmido, Vaughn Matthew Valle, Maxell Milay, Sheen Santos Capadngan won gold for their project "HIKAWAY: Portable Monitoring and Notification Device for Asthma Pre- Detection." Asil Andrei Acasio, Peter Lloyd Gealon, Ruben Ybannez Jr., and Ken Zachary Rollo also received a gold award for "ASO: Automatic Smoke Detector" in the Youth category (Disaster, Emergency, and Crisis Management).

Other gold awardees under the Youth category were Avi Conerose Therese Malana, Raphael David Condor, and Kyra Jilian Namor for "CROPATROL: Agricultural Crop Pest and Disease Pre-Detection Patrol System" (Agriculture, Livestock, Horticulture, Aquaculture, and Fisheries); Gabriel Amoro, John Karlo Cenabre, Matthew Singzon, and Maria Lourdes Balane for "GINHAWA: Arduino based Acetone Concentration Sensing for Detection of Possible Diabetic Condition" (Healthcare & Personal Care Technology); Allyn Christian Quiamjot, Jed Jerreal Escaran, and Raphael David Condor for "VITAL AID: Vital Signs Monitoring Arduino-based Infrared Device" (Sports, Leisure, Recreational Equipment, Active Wears, and Wearables).

Furthermore, five PSHS-CVisC research projects won silver awards.

In the Junior category, Chesyne Danielle Pepito, David Elijah Corsini Atup, and Josefino Nino Ligan were awarded silver for "IMAHE: Image Processing Device for Microplastic Assessment and High-Quality Evaluation of Water" (Protection of the Environment, Energy, Water, Wastewater, Sanitation, & Green Technology). The "Screening for the Anticancer Potential of Cebu Cinnamon Leaf Extract against HCT- 116 (Human Colorectal Cancer)" (Healthcare, Personal Care Technology, Biotechnology, and Life Sciences) of Deni Margarette Dalman and Hannah Nicole Gaudiel also won a silver award.

Other recipients of a silver award were Nathan Elmido, Vaughn Matthew Valle, Vince Louie Valle, Maxell Milay, Sheen Santos Capadngan, Raphael David Condor, Kyra Jilian Namor, and Marianne Emmanuelle Ceniza for REEFPATROL: Coral Reef Health Monitoring System" (Junior category- Protection of the Environment, Energy, Water, Wastewater, Sanitation, & Green Technology); Avi Conerose Therese Malana, Raphael David Condor, and Kyra Jilian Namor for "NANOHEAL: Development and Characterization of Cellulose nanofibers from Banana Peels as an Antibacterial and Blood Coagulating Agent" (Youth category - Healthcare, Personal Care Technology, Biotechnology, and Life Sciences); and Andre Milan AraƱas, Seanuel Joash Uyangoren, Kurt Matthew Amodia, and Avi Conerose Therese Malana for "SIMOY: Systematic Innovation for Monitoring Air Quality Near Landfill" (Youth category - Disaster, Emergency, and Crisis Management).
