Together with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the Philippine Science High School – Central Visayas Campus (PSHS-CVisC) joined in the celebration of the annual 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) as mandated by RA 10398 from November 25, 2022 to December 12, 2022.
In line with the celebration, the PSHS-CVisC held and conducted relevant activities to promote awareness among school personnel and students on the different forms of violence and the laws protecting women and girls. The activities also aimed to raise awareness and consciousness that Violence Against Women (VAW) is still a public issue of national concern and that everyone is called to commit themselves to end VAW and achieve a VAW-free community.
The celebration kick-started with trivia questions after the flag-raising ceremony. The trivia questions were addressed to students and personnel alike.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the seminar on Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act/Bawal Bastos Law and Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. Atty. Leah Misty C. Escolar-Hupp, a Cebu City Prosecutor, graced the event as the resource speaker. The resource speaker pointed out the basics of the two VAW-related laws. The participants actively engaged in the discussion fora. The seminar ended with the giving of token and certificate to the speaker.
The celebration ended with some more trivia questions for the personnel and students. Some questions were taken from the talk of the resource speaker, Atty. Leah Misty C. Escolar-Hupp.
